A "Sweet" tale for teens
A "Sweet" tale for teensThis was one of my favorite books growing up. Lauremce Yep's thoughtful tale of a human boy whose simple life on a distant world is shattered by the appearance of an native alien who not only opens his eyes to the reality of prejudice but also shows him the courage to defend and be proud of the most important things in his life, especially his family.
Get this book for you young teen, and they will thank you for it.

The Dancing Pig
Published in School & Library Binding by Gulliver Books (September, 1999)
Average review score:

Book review from a regular mom:The Dancing Pig is one of the best books that I've ever bought for my son. He was captured by the story and didn't take his eyes off the book at any time, and even better, he didn't stop my reading to ask a question. The well written story and the many brilliant full page illustrations definately added to my son's increased interest. The culture oriented story line and illustrations in The Dancing Pig brings a feel of beautiful island of Bali. The author and illustrator must have spent time there in order to produce such a marvelous book. I strongly recommend the book. Your family will treasure this book!

Goodbye Sweetwater: New & Selected Stories

What the literate look for in written worksMr. Dumas' voice is clear, concise and engrossing. His quiet tone only makes the plot stand out more. His voice fades away and you are left in the scene, alone with the protagonist and his or her foe or friend. The many stories here are the works of his genius. The characters and the environments in which they move are fully developed. This is a work that the avid reader cannot put down.

Saltwater, Sweetwater: Women Write from California North Coast
Published in Paperback by Floreant Pr (February, 1998)
Average review score:

A wonderfully crisp and poignant collection of essays. This collection of writing by so many talented individuals is truly a treasure. Many of the stories make some reference to the geography of Northern California, giving those who know it a thrill of recognition. But even for those who have never even heard of the small towns and backroads of the North Coast, this book is refreshing and engrossing. I would highly recomend this book to anyone in any part of the world.
Dedicated to the memory of Judi Bari and Suzanne Lipsett, two influential women fallen to breast cancer, many of the pieces have a theme of death or departure. Some may leave you crying, but all are superbly constructed works of art worthy of the highest recognition.

Sweetwater Saga
Published in Paperback by New American Library (June, 1986)
Average review score:

Native American theme romance! Here's one you don't want to miss. I was hardly able to put it down. Cheyenne Indians, in retalition for their village being attacked by white men and their women & children killed, destroy the town of Sweetwater and carry off, among others, 3 women. This is the story of the romances of all three--before and after their capture. Great writing. I'm turned on to Dent, want other stories of hers now.

FunI found this book to be fun, sweet and even exciting. Took a while for the passion to heat up, but that okay. I enjoyed it. I like sizzling page turners like Lindsey and Cynthia Simmons "Anything, My Love"

Under the Sweetwater Rim

Vintage L'Amour - 'Sweet water' is sweet readingHas Louis L'Amour ever written a bad book? If so, I have never read one, and in fact this is one of his best. The setting is deep in Indian country - 200 miles west of Fort Laramie and right from the start the master of the western genre has your concentration as much as a wagon master going through hostile territory. In fact that's how the story starts with a grisly massacre of a wagon train party. The slaughter, however, was not the work of Indians but rather a vicious bunch of owlhoots who have made off with a missing wagon, a fortune in gold and the daughter of Major Devereaux. The wild card is Lt. Tenadore Brian, who is riding with the missing wagon against orders. In the hands of the master story teller those few ingredients are enough to weave a engrossing drama of the Old West that makes the reader keep going as relentlessly as Major Devereaux's career in the cavalry or with the determination of Lt.Brian to get the crooks - and the girl. For fans of L'Amour, and westerns in general, 'Under the Sweetwater Rim' is indeed sweet reading.

Loved It!I just finished this book and loved it...all the different charactors kept the book interesting I couldn't put it down. The ending was a little disappointing, but the rest of the story made up for it. I hope that there is a book to follow about Cassandra and Whit.
Excellent historical romance set in 1884 Wyoming TerritoryWow! This was one excellent story! I loved every word of it, and was thrilled to discover it was the story of the wonderful twins, Trellis and Travor, first introduced in Midnight Blue by Dorothy Garlock. Pack and Shannon Mara Gallagher are mentioned throughout the book, and my only complaint is that we didn't get to read about their arrival at the end - since we knew they were on their way to meet the twins' new wives! After reading some of these reviews, I wondered if this book would be as good as the other books I've read of Ms. Garlock's... it was as good or better than any of them that I've read!! The arrival of Travor, Trell's twin, did not arrive as corny as another reviewer mentioned... he arrived before Jenny and Trell spoke their love for each other. This was an excellent book!!!
Loved it!I fell in love with the twins in "Midnight Blue" when they were teenagers. I'm glad they got a story of their own. I enjoyed all the different storylines in the book. I do hope there will be another book about Cassandra or Whit.

Wallace Stegner meets Barbara Kingsolver in the AdirondacksI loved this book.
Intensity of time and place similar to Stegner's Crossing to Safety.
Main character, Isabel, is a grown up woman (what a nice change!) going with her second husband to meet his family at their compound in the Adirondacks. This plot is successfully interspersed with her thoughts of her first marriage, work, and grown child.
Isabel is an environmentalist, and her sometimes lectures on the subject evoke Kingsolver.
Somewhat predictable in part, but a cliffhanger ending redeems it.
Refreshing to read about a successful adult woman dealing with themes of love, abandonment, mothering, career, identity.
Very well written, engrossing.
I will be discussing this with my bookclubs when it comes out in paperback.

A wonderful and complex but compelling book! This is a wonderful book with a subtly interwoven plot and a mystery at the heart of it. I can't imagine that anyone wouldn't like this novel. This is a very fine writer in wonderful form, and I couldn't put "Sweetwater" down even though I had many other things pressing. I'm online just to order everything else I can find by Roxana Robinson.
A wondeful and mesmerizing novel!I don't understand how it would be possible for anyone NOT to find this book compelling! It has the best of everything: a splendid writer in top form, a complex, interwoven tale full of mystery and suspense, and a book that illuminates how we manage to survive our own lives in spite of guilt and grief and circumstance. I extend congratulations and gratitude to Roxana Robinson!
